For over 30 years, Restaurant De Pottekijker has been known by locals in Antwerp for its Belgian cuisine featuring generous grilled dishes and friendly service.

Since 1993, De Pottekijker has been the charming, cozy grill restaurant at the end of the Grote Markt, in the vibrant heart of Antwerp. Thanks to its focus on fresh daily products and generous portions, the honest – but above all, delicious – no-nonsense meat and fish dishes have earned a reputation far beyond Antwerp.

The evening restaurant is tucked away behind a particularly charming, protected 16th-century façade. The old shopfront likely still has one of the narrowest front doors in the historic city center.

With the recent renovation, the old, unique decorative elements were beautifully integrated into the contemporary interior.

The various levels, combined with abundant candlelight, continue to create a warm, homely, and romantic atmosphere.

Opening Hours

Monday to Thursday. Our doors open at 5:30 PM, and the kitchen accepts orders until 9:00 PM*. Our doors close at 11:00 PM.

Friday. Our doors open at 5:30 PM, and the kitchen accepts orders until 9:30 PM*. Our doors close at 11:30 PM.

Saturday. Our doors open at 5:00 PM, and the kitchen accepts orders until 9:30 PM*. Our doors close at 11:30 PM.

Sunday. Our doors open at 5:00 PM, and the kitchen accepts orders until 9:00 PM*. Our doors close at 11:00 PM.

*Closing time may vary depending on how busy it is. Be sure to call if you plan to eat at this time. We may ask you to limit your order to a single dish so that the kitchen team can start cleaning up after a long day. Coffee or dessert can still be enjoyed afterward.

Reservations

De Pottekijker is popular and often fully booked. To avoid disappointment, we recommend making a reservation in advance via our online booking system. This way, you can immediately check availability and receive an automatic confirmation of your reservation.

We operate with an early and a late shift. Guests who book early have plenty of time to enjoy a relaxed dining experience (2.5 hours, or 3 hours for groups of five or more). If you prefer to stay longer, a later reservation is recommended. Late guests are welcome to stay until closing time.

MAKE A RESERVATION

Depending on how far in advance you made your reservation, you will receive a reminder email the day before your visit and/or an email to reconfirm your booking. This helps us anticipate whether to expect you.

Since we often notice that unconfirmed reservations result in no-shows, we reserve the right to cancel these bookings.

We hold your table for 15 minutes after the scheduled arrival time. After that, we assume you are not coming and will offer the table to other guests.

Unfortunately, these measures are necessary to reduce the increasing number of no-shows. We appreciate your understanding.

Please respect your arrival time. We allocate reservations across different time slots to ensure smooth service in both the dining area and the kitchen. Additionally, if you arrive too early, your table may not yet be available.

Practical

Table preference. We will do our best to accommodate your table preference, but we cannot guarantee it, as table allocation depends on the situation at the time.

Groups. Only groups of up to 8 people are accepted. Read more.

Accessibility. Our narrow entrance door in our historic shopfront is less than 65 cm wide, making it one of the narrowest doors in the old city center. Additionally, most of our seating is upstairs on the mezzanine or mid-level, and passageways are narrow. As a result, strollers or buggies cannot fit inside and certainly cannot be placed next to the table.

Limited mobility. People with limited mobility should mention this when reserving so we can reserve a spot on the ground floor. Our toilets are also located on the ground floor.

Dogs. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are always welcome. Please let us know if your dog will be accompanying you so that we can reserve a quiet, suitable table.

Payment cards. In addition to cash, we accept the following payment cards: Bancontact, Maestro, V Pay, Visa, Visa Electron, MasterCard, and American Express.

Meal vouchers. We do not accept meal vouchers.

De Pottekijker is easy to find in the narrow, final stretch of the Grote Markt in Antwerp. We are accessible by foot, bicycle, car, or public transport.
